on their 25th Anniversary!
PTI Celebrates Twenty Five Years
and their New Facility
In July, 2008, PTI completed its one-of-kind facility and moved their
headquarters under one roof to Macomb, Michigan. Mark Rathbone,
founder and CEO of PTI Engineered Plastics Inc., and Kurt Nerva,
President, say: “Being able to move our two facilities into one larger
customized facility enables us to play a major role in meeting the future
challenges of the industry and PTI’s diverse customer base.”
Today, the privately held Michigan company, continues to grow, and be financially strong. They attribute this fact, in large measure, to their 25-year history of maintaining their core strategies and values. And it was, according to Nerva, these business standards that dictated the ergonomic and innovative design for the new facility. He says: “We have a solid history in high quality, low volume manufacturing which now comprises over half our business. Our company has always been, and will continue to be, unfaltering about speed to market and early development, without compromise to materials or design. At PTI, we have developed the proprietary “P3” prototyping process, where we can accelerate our customers’ products seamlessly ahead of the competition.”
PTI’s newly completed; state-of-the-art 115,000 sq ft engineering and manufacturing facility is equipped with 12-500 ton injection molding machines. A central material handling system to the manufacturing area delivers all raw materials. PTI processes hundreds of different materials annually, and have over a thousand material types in inventory. The Tool Room Manufacturing areas are air-conditioned and climate controlled.
In order to meet the demands of their medical device customers, the new facility is home to two ISO 8 (Class 100,000) controlled environment rooms. The second is now in the final phase of construction and will add 3,300 sq ft of Cleanroom with full molding, assembly, secondary operations, and packaging capabilities. Some of the added services offered are: assembly, part decorating, insert and overmolding.
Also inside their new facility is an Advanced Product Development area, which develops and enhances the customer’s concept assuring them that what they have envisioned will be achieved without compromise.
The location of the facility was selected based on what Rathbone believes is his most valuable asset: his 135 employees. He says: “ They are the real tools of my success. Many I have enjoyed the company of, most of my 25-years in business. With these dedicated employees I have been able to succeed in growing the business and build partnerships with our customers.” says Rathbone. PTI is also proud to boast that they have less than one-percent turnover, something that undeniably separates them from the competitors. “PTI has certainly seen many changes in the industry over the last twenty five years.” says Rathbone. “It is with certainty that the next “twenty five” will bring even more. At PTI we plan to meet those challenges by remaining true to our core strategies and values, which are the principles that are a crucial element to our success.”
